Information on Unemployment in the Czech Republic

By January 31, 2010 job offices registered altogether 574,226 job seekers. That is
by 35,090 more than at the end of December. The number of job seekers increased by
176,165 persons compared with the same period of the preceding year. The number of
available job seekers (job seekers currently available for work) was 562,409.
In the course of January, job offices registered altogether 88,076 newcomers. That
is by 15,726 job seekers more than in the preceding month and by 200 newly registered job
seekers more than in January of the preceding year.
In January, job offices registration was terminated with 52,986 job seekers. New
jobs have been taken up by 35,160 persons. In the course of the above-said month, job offices
excluded 17,826 job seekers due to other reasons.
A monthly increase of unemployed was registered by 77 job offices in the Czech
Republic - relatively the greatest increase was monitored in districts Jindrichuv Hradec
(15.8 %), Jeseník (14.2 %), Znojmo (12.3 %), Písek (11.6 %), Chrudim (11.0 %), Pelhrimov
(10.7 %) and Plzen-sever (10.5 %).
At the end of January, job offices registered 264,867 female job seekers, that is
46.1 % of the unemployed in total, and 69,096 persons with reduced working capacity, that
is 12.0 % of the unemployed in total.
By January 31, 2010, 35,233 school leavers with all levels of education and
juveniles were registered. Thus they share in the total unemployment rate by 6.1 %
(December 2009 – 6.6 %, January 2009 – 6.3 %).
In January 2010, job offices paid off unemployment benefits to 214,161 job
seekers, that is 37.3 % of all job seekers under registration (December 2009 – 35.1 %,
January 2009 – 41.4 %).
By January 31, 2010, the unemployment rate was 9.8 % (December 2009: 9.2 %,
January 2009: 6.8 %). Unemployment rate higher than average of the Czech Republic was
shown in 48 districts, the highest being in Jeseník (19.2 %), Znojmo (17.2 %), Hodonín
(17.1 %), Most (17.0 %), Bruntál (16.8 %) and Decín (16.0 %). The lowest unemployment
rate was in districts of Praha-východ (3.4 %) and Praha (3.8 %), Praha–západ (4.3 %). The
unemployment rate - women was 10.6 % and unemployment rate - men was 9.3 %.
By January 31, 2010, job offices registered altogether 31,557 vacancies. That is by
630 vacancies more than in the preceding month and by 36,937 vacancies less than in the
same period of the preceding year. At present, there have been 18.2 job seekers for one
vacancy at average, the highest amount being in districts of Decín (77.3), Znojmo (74.5),
Teplice (71.0), Karviná (66.8), Trebíc (66.4 %) and Prostejov (65.0). In this monitored period,
there were registered by job offices 1,850 vacancies for persons with reduced working
capacity that is 37.3 seekers per vacancy. In the case of school leavers and juveniles, there
were registered altogether 4,155 vacancies, that is 8.5 seekers per vacancy.
Harmonized unemployment rates (EUROSTAT) was 8.0 % in December 2009.
